I've had one of these for ten or twelve years and used it heavily for everything from woodworking, metal drilling, Kentucky rifle making, etc.
It only just now (the old one) started giving up the ghost when drilling through 3.5 inch southern yellow pine for a Moravian work bench I am now making. Just got the new one - identical - the other day and finished all the drill throughs I needed for the legs (mortises, peg holes, etc) with no problem and it took it in stride. One powerful little 3/8 drill there folks. At times used the 1" and 1 1/4" Irwin Speedbore auger bits mainly for the through mortises prior to chopping them out. 3/4" holes NO problem at all through the southern yellow pine. As you know, good southern yellow pine is harder than some "hardwoods" like poplar and others. Very pleased with this Makita drill.

Works fabulous, and I love the corded drill because I don't use it everyday so I don't have to worry about replacing batteries, it's easy to use and really gets the job done -- and I am a woman who appreciates excellent quality power tools, and also knows how to use them.

I wanted to love this drill and may, eventually, come to love it. I wanted a corded unit because I don't use the drill enough to maintain batteries and keep them charged for use. I preferred the idea of just plugging it in when I need to use it. It seems like a solidly built unit that should last a very long time. The only thing I am not 100% on is that the drill is not adjustable at all in speed and it runs fast! It is very easy to strip the heads of screws with this drill before you even realize that it's slipping. It is just that powerful. The variable speed is managed only in the trigger and apparently I lack finesse there. Practice? Maybe. Pilot holes? Definitely.
