  1. 3.0 out of 5 stars Drills well, but short tip life in stone, August 23, 2017

I use this 5/16 x12 inch SDS drill bit for splitting rocks. They work well initially, but tend to burn the tip out after drilling about 8-10 holes. I cool the bits down with water between holes to try to extend the life, which helps, but doesn't eliminate the issue. Also, I noticed that after a while, the width of the tip (diameter) wears down so that it is not drilling a 5/16" hole any more, but a smaller diameter hole. This is normal with SDS bits in rock, but it tends to wear faster than the Milwaukee version of the same bit. There seems to be less carbide in the tip vs the Milwaukee, and the Bosch carbide tip isn't secured as well as the Milwaukee (Bosch tip comes loose from brazing and breaks up).

The price from amazon is very good on these bits, but the tendency to burn out can still make them expensive.
I found that the Milwaukee 2-cutter drill bit has much longer carbide head life, and only cost about $1-2 more (if you shop around).
If you are only drilling less than 12x holes with the bit, then the Bosch should be good, but if you need more than 12x holes get the Milwaukee for a slightly higher price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bit for Bosch, August 25, 2016

This is a great bit. I use it for drilling into cement floors so I can install lag bolts. This bit will go quite a while before it starts to show any wear. Bosch is a great company and makes a quality product. I only use their bits when doing any heaving drilling. These bits will never break in my experience.

Great little bit, it cut through concrete like butter with my Bocch Hammer Drill. No problems, clean hole and easy to use. What more could you ask for.
