A few months ago I made the switch to Hilti cordless tools...and I'll never go back! Simply put, they're incredible in power and durability. The SID 18-A has an incredible amount of power, not bogging down driving gutter hangers, 5" builder screws, pre-drilled lags (it's not a 1/2" impact gun!). The batteries show a true tool voltage of 21v. On more sensitive jobs I love that you can back the power down to level 1/2/3. 1 drives smaller sheet metal screws, 2 for driving standard drywall screws, 3 for when you need more power to drive lags/3"+ screws, etc. I use both battery sizes depending on what I'm doing...I use the bigger 3.3ah battery when I'm using it for larger jobs and the smaller 1.6ah battery for better balance and handling when doing smaller jobs like a kitchen cabinet installation. I do tend to take care of tools, but use them commercially, so they do get some abuse...the SID has taken a few falls from 8-10' onto a driveway without any issues (other than a few scratches). I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and with a no-cost 2-year warranty I'm sure I'll be happy for at least 2 years! Will update if anything changes.

Interesting... I have invested over $2,000 on the chinese manufactured Hilti 21.6 volt cordless tools and I use them every day as a general carpentry carpenter with a focus on residential framing. My Hilti brushless impact driver died after 26 months and was therefore out of warranty. The repair costs were near $200 so my dealer advised me to buy a new one for around $200 rather than spend almost the same on a repair. I did not work this tool that hard, and it died after running a medium length oly log screw. In contrast, before the Hilti I used to use a Makita 14.4 Volt NiMh impact driver that I worked very hard, and it never quit on me, and still works to this day. On the whole I think the 21.6 volt tools are overpriced, their warranty is only 2 years and therefore not that great, and some of the components are cheaper. I believe that Hilti cordless tools are oriented to big city commercial construction companies and large tool fleet lease deals, and the tools are designed for high output in conjunction with low replacement costs for large tool fleet lease clients. I do not think that Hilti cordless tools are designed for high value for a small business contractor who intends to work the tools for five years or more. So I am switching back to Milwaukee for the better warranty, more creative engineering, and more dynamic tool system evolution.

I used all the Hilti cordless tools for building commercial climbing gyms around the country. I've gone through Dewalt kits, Makita kits and Milwaukee combos. The hiltis are my favorite. the design and warranty alone speak for themselves, but for all the abuse my tools take the Hiltis are the only ones that continuously held up. If you're a DIY/self employed construction guy go with the Milwaukee or Makita. If you're doing heavy commercial work the hiltis are the only option.
